    ABOUT US...

Hi! We are Seth and Libby Peterson, third generation Golden Retriever breeders living on 20 acres in Lonsdale, MN. Libby's grandparents started breeding Goldens almost sixty years ago on their dairy farm in Devon, England, and there have been Goldens in our lives ever since.

We started Sugarwood Kennels so that our children could experience the delights of puppies; from the wonder of birth through to the joy of seeing our precious puppies find their own families to love.

Puppies learn from a suprisingly early age, and its never too soon to acclimatize them to the environment of home life. Our puppies are raised in our front living room until they are four weeks old when they are then moved into the heated garage, giving them more room to run. From the moment they are born our pups are cuddled and loved. Living in the middle of our home environment our children take every single break with the pups and then some!

Sugarwood Goldens are intellegant and athletic with huge hearts and lots of love to give. Please carefully consider the following recomendations that will help your puppy grow into a healthy, well-balanced individual:

    YOU GOLDEN'S NEEDS:

    • Involve your Golden in your life.

    • Socialize your pup as they grow. Make sure that every interaction with people, dogs, kids, environments, is safe and controlled so that your puppy always has a positive experience.

    • Enroll in puppy classes with an experienced, trusted trainer.

    • Give lots of exercise, every day; your puppy's needs will change as they age, and getting out and about is always important.

    • Consistently, gently, enforce the boundries that you want- for example, our dogs stay in one area of the house with no crates or gates, and have only one piece of furniture that they are allowed on.

    • Daily engage your Golden mentally: play games, train, maybe some competition/sports.

    • Feed a high quality, grain free diet; or a raw diet if possible.

    • Choose a vet and/or training classes where you are listened to and supported.

    • Have fun and enjoy!
